All About Me (Well, some things about me)!

Me at 5 years old. I was a blondy with curly hair, wasn't I!

My older sister Elaine and me at the fishpond in front of our house growing up in Richmond, California.

My favorite "school" picture. I loved that "middy" shirt!

Hello. My name is Donna Bass. If you have gotten here, you are probably asking, "But what do you do besides cats?" Some of my main interests are photography and making stained glass windows. I also enjoy traveling, but having the cats has put a restraint on that. I've included more stuff below.

Here's one of my favorite pictures, because it combines two of my interests, photography and travel. I had just finished a day of cross-country skiing in stormy weather at Badger Pass in Yosemite and came through the tunnel just as the sun was breaking through the clouds at sunset. It looked like El Capitan was on fire! The light lasted for only a few moments, but it was magical. It just took all the tiredness out of me.

Here I am skiing at Yosemite's Badger Pass. It is obviously a long time ago, but it was a wonderful experience. My knees are too bad now to even consider such sports, but I enjoyed doing this two day trip up to the big trees in Yosemite.
Here's a picture of me getting off a chair lift for a quick trip down the hill at Mammoth Mountain, CA. Mammoth is a great place to ski!

I used to rock climb. Here I am at Tahquitz Rock in Southern California. I was always the follower, never the leader - I'm afraid of heights and not very secure. I stopped climbing when my climbing partner terrified me so badly, I ended up hurting myself. While I did it, I enjoyed it!

Here's a picture of a window I made for my sister and brother-in-law. It is propped in the snow of Colorado, where I lived when I made it. It was their Christmas present that year. Even though the process of making a window is difficult, it is satisfying to see one come together. My current enthusiasm with stained glass is Tiffany-style lamps. They are full of small pieces and detail work, but it is a true accomplishment to complete one.

I went to Humboldt State University in Arcata, CA and graduated in 3 years with a degree in Political Science. During my three years, I had a couple of wonderful experiences, including working as an Intern in Washington, DC for Congressman Les AuCoin from Oregon.

I also worked as an Intern in the Sierra Club's Legislative Analyst's office in Sacramento when I attended the "Sacramento Semester" program through the California State University system. I represented the Sierra Club before the "Governor's Commission to Review California's Water Rights Laws" which was quite an honor. I also represented the Sierra Club at a bill signing with then Governor Jerry Brown. At bill signings, there is always a photographer and I was able to get a copy of this historic occasion signed by the Governor!

After college, I went to Australia for a couple of months and spent most of my time in and around Sydney. Here I am on a Jet Ski on a river near Sydney. I love Australia, at least the part around Sydney (except for the flies!), because it reminds me of California in attitude.

After returning from Australia, I moved to Colorado. I worked at a ski resort (as a maid!) and then became a computer operator for Summit County. I moved to Breckenridge (altitude 9300 feet) and lived there for two years. I became a volunteer firefighter and then an EMT. I later moved to Denver and became a Paramedic. I got certified and worked as a volunteer paramedic, but had to give it up when my back and knees both conspired to make it difficult to lift people.

While living in Breckenridge, I left the County to start working at the Beaver Run Resort. We sponsored a ski party for the Multiple Sclorosis Association. I was able to join in the fun and it was nice to see myself in a picture in the paper surrounded by Billy Kidd and other famous skiers and actors. I was actually laughing at the famous actor who was trying to climb on the back of the Sno-Track that was taking us back to the top of the mountain.

Now that I have gotten older, my adventuresome days seem to be behind me. I have my cats and my home and my friends. I dream of being able to travel everywhere and taking pictures and seeing everything. Maybe if I win the Lottery!

My current job entails working on a computer all day long, so it's nice to come home and have nice purring cats on my lap all night long. I have started my own Virtual Assistant company, called "I'm Your Office." If you need someone to help with your business, but you don't need a full-time employee or an on-site employee, check out my website at http://www.imyouroffice.com.
